Unit 2

The Digital Economy

Many of our transactions are now paperless - carried out over the internet using transactional websites. This is known as the 'digital economy'. The marketplace is now global. We can carry out our transactions anywhere and anytime. Most people now have internet-enabled computers and credit cards to pay for goods. These are major factors in the growth of the digital economy.

E-consumers have more choice than is available to them offline in their own locality. They expect to receive a personalised service and an instant response. In this unit, you will investigate how organisations are responding to the pressures of the e-marketplace by using transactional websites to:

  • Present their products and services
  • Gather information
  • Provide a personalised service.
